Coriolis Flow Meter: Features, Uses, Benefits

Posted by TechStar on Dec 28, 2022 6:00:00 AM

If you are looking for a flow meter that directly measures the mass flow rate with high accuracy while simultaneously measuring density, temperature, volumetric flow rate, and concentration. You will be looking at the Coriolis Flow Meter. In this guide, we cover the working principles, features, applications, and benefits of coriolis flow meters.

What is a Coriolis Flow Meter?

A coriolis flow meter measures the mass flow of both corrosive and clean gases and liquids using motion mechanics.

How Does a Coriolis Flow Meter Work?

The working principle of coriolis flow meters is based on the Coriolis Effect which describes how any moving body on Earth will trend to drift sideways in response to the rotation of the Earth. In a coriolis flow meter, a liquid or gas flows through an oscillating U-shaped tube. An excitor oscillates the tube continuously. When no flow is present, the oscillations are uniform. When flow is present, the oscillation is augmented in proportion to the mass of the material that passes through the device. Electrodynamic sensors at the entry and exit points of the device detect the changes in oscillation in terms of time and distance, also known as phase shift. The data transmits to the meter that analyzes and presents the information.

Coriolis Flow Meter Features

Even though there many different types of flow meters that offer distinct features needed for various use applications, there are some common features that most quality coriolis flow meters have to support optimal measurement.

Coriolis Flow Meter Benefits

Coriolis flow meters offer a number of benefits, including:

Measurement Accuracy

Precise operation and control requires precision tools and does not provide any room for error. Coriolis flow meters provide unsurpassed accuracy with specialized calibration settings and design features to suit the needs of any environment.

Adaptability

Coriolis flow meters are highly adaptable because they can measure almost any type of substance and they are independent from ambient conditions.

Measures Viscosity

It can be challenging for many meters to measure a fluid’s viscosity. However, coriolis flow meters are adept at measuring the thickness of a fluid and the rate at which it flows.

Provides Multifunctional Data

The main purpose of a coriolis flow meter is to measure mass flow readings of a solution. However, there are many different types of coriolis flow meters and they all have additional capabilities that can provide data regarding volume, density, temperature, concentration, and other parameters.

Easy to Install and Maintain

Coriolis flow meters are easy to install and maintain because they allow users to select the meter size connection that matches the piping without the need for modification. A health check runs parallel to measurement so the device does not need to be removed for unnecessary recalibration. With this advanced data, maintenance needs can be predicted and addressed proactively.
